- U -
- Unit Cost
- The total labor, material and overhead cost for one unit of production. [APIC].
- UNIX
- A family of operating systems licensed by AT&T that are known for their relative hardware independence and portable applications interface. It is used widely in technical and scientific computing applications.
- Unshielded Twisted Pair
- A network medium that uses 4 or 8 conductor unshielded twisted pair "telephone style" wiring. Existing Telephone wiring can be used for standard IEEE 802.3 Ethernet up to a speed of 10 Mbps, however 8 conductor "Category 5" Unshielded Twisted Pair wiring is necessary to support 100 Mbps Ethernet.
- Usage
- The number of units or dollars of an inventory item consumed over a period of time. [APIC].
- Usage Variance
- The deviation of the actual consumption of materials as compared to a standard. Standard Costs - Actual costs becomes usage variance. [APIC].
- Use As Is
- Material that has been dispositioned as unacceptable per the specifications but can be used as is. [APIC].
- Utilization Losses
- Utilization and unbalances of raw materials and energy.
